RFID: another attack on our privacy?Radio-frequency identification tags. They are small, controversial, and they have been around for decades. RFID tags use radio waves that allow reader devices to obtain data the tag emits. They are now cheaper to produce than ever and their use is becoming more widespread. Businesses love RFID beca...[ detail ]
Joanne Gardner tracks down the solutions to your print problems Q: I work for a small, but growing, wholesale specialist grocer and we’re trying to find a supplier to print our company logo on hessian bags. We are not particularly loyal to our current hessian bag supplier, so if they provide a good, low-cost service, we would be making regular orders. The most famous block-books are the Speculum Humanae Salvationis and the Ars moriendi, though in this the images and text are on ...
The use of round "cylinder seals" for rolling an impress onto clay tablets goes back to early Mesopotamian civilization before 3,000 BCE, where they are the commonest works of art to survive, and feature complex and beautiful images. In both China and Egypt, the use of small stamps for seals preceded the use of larger blocks. In Egypt, Europe, and India, the printing of cloth certainly preceded the printing of paper or papyrus; this was probably also the case in China. The process is essentially the same—in Europe special presentatio...

Total Print! Expo 2009 cancelled by IIR

Exhibition organiser IIR has shelved this autumn's Total Print! Expo (TPE) show, citing difficult market conditions. "To make it work sensibly we needed three or four of the big guys to say yes, and unfortunately that didn’t happen," said IIR managing director Nicky Mason. Mason admitted that Northprint's relatively poor showing may have also had an impact on bookings for TPE.   "I think because we held people to contracts [for Northprint], they have been relatively slow to book for TPE," she said. II...
